Our fuels
We supply four types of biomass fuel. Tell us about your boiler and feed system and we will suggest the one that suits it.
| Fuel | GCV (kcal/kg) | Moisture | Size |
|---|---|---|---|
![]() Wood pellets Uniform pellets that feed easily. The usual choice when replacing coal in an industrial boiler. |
4,200–4,800 | ≤ 10% | 6–8 mm |
![]() Biomass pellets Pressed from agricultural residue such as palm fibre. Costs less than wood pellets where higher ash is acceptable. |
3,800–4,400 | ≤ 10% | 6–8 mm |
![]() Wood chips Screened chips for boilers designed for loose fuel, supplied by the truckload or shipload. |
3,200–3,800 | ≤ 30% | P31–P45 |
![]() Sawdust and palm kernel shell Sawdust and agricultural residues such as palm kernel shell, sourced to your fuel specification. |
3,600–4,400 | ≤ 15% | Varies by product |
Bars show each GCV range on a scale of 3,000 to 5,000 kcal/kg. Figures are typical ranges. The specification for each order is agreed in the contract and confirmed by laboratory analysis.
How we supply
We agree the fuel specification with you at the start, then supply to it, whether you are a factory in Malaysia or a buyer overseas.
We buy from producers
Sawmills, pellet producers and agricultural suppliers, with the origin recorded for each lot.
We check the fuel
Samples are tested for calorific value, moisture and ash against the agreed specification.
We arrange transport
Lorries within Malaysia, and containers or bulk vessels for export, with the paperwork done.
We deliver on schedule
Deliveries are planned around your monthly use so your fuel store does not run low.
Packaging and delivery
Fuel comes in bags, jumbo bags, bulk loads or containers, depending on how your plant takes it in.

| Packaging | Size | Suits |
|---|---|---|
| Small bags | 15 kg or 25 kg, on pallets | Manual or small feeders |
| Jumbo bags | About 1 t | Silo and hopper top-ups |
| Bulk lorry | About 24 t | Large fuel stores |
| Container or vessel | 20 ft, 40 ft, or bulk | Export orders |
- Minimum order
- One truckload locally, one 20 ft container for export
- Delivery area
- Peninsular Malaysia; Sabah and Sarawak by arrangement
- Lead time
- Typically 7–14 days for local orders
- Scheduling
- Planned around your monthly consumption
Export
We quote overseas buyers on standard trade terms, arrange the freight and prepare the shipping documents your customs broker and auditors ask for.
- Lorry delivery: Peninsular Malaysia
- Sabah and Sarawak, by arrangement
- Export route from Port Klang
- Office
- Port of loading
- Trade terms
- FOB, CFR or CIF
- Port of loading
- Port Klang, or other Malaysian ports on request
- Shipment
- 20 ft and 40 ft containers, or bulk vessel for large lots
- Markets
- Buyers in Japan, South Korea, China and Southeast Asia
- Certification
- Certified fuel (such as ENplus or SBP) sourced from certified producers on request
- Payment
- L/C at sight or T/T
Shipping documents
- Commercial invoice and packing list
- Bill of lading
- Certificate of origin
- Phytosanitary certificate, where the destination requires one
- Certificate of analysis for the lot
The analysis comes from an independent inspection lab, or from the producer's lab where the buyer agrees.
Coal to biomass estimator
Biomass has less energy per tonne than steam coal, so you need more of it for the same heat. Enter your figures for a rough estimate.
This is based on heat content only. Moisture, boiler design and the feed system all change the real figure, so we confirm it after looking at your plant.
Why biomass
Biomass gives off carbon that the plant took in while it grew. Much of the fuel we supply is residue from sawmills and plantations that would otherwise rot or be burned in the open. Using it in place of coal cuts the fossil carbon in your fuel.
- Residue from mills and agricultural suppliers, with the origin recorded for each lot
- Fuel data your team can use for energy and emissions reporting
- Works in many of the boilers you already run, often with only feed-system changes
About Ecomass
Ecomass Sdn. Bhd. trades as Ecomass Bio Energy from Kuala Lumpur. We buy biomass fuel from producers and supply it to industrial users in Malaysia and to buyers overseas.
Ecomass is a trading company. We don't run our own mill, so we source from producers to match the fuel to your specification, volume and delivery schedule.
Our team has more than ten years of experience in the energy industry. We know what industrial fuel buyers need: consistent quality, honest specifications and deliveries that arrive when promised.
We source from sawmills, pellet producers and agricultural suppliers across Malaysia.

Frequently asked questions
Can biomass replace coal in the boiler we already run?
Often, yes. Many coal-fired boilers can co-fire biomass, or switch fully with changes to the feed system and grate settings. It depends on your boiler design, so we look at your boiler and fuel handling and recommend a fuel to suit. Changes to the boiler itself are for your boiler supplier.
How much biomass will we need?
Biomass carries less energy per tonne than coal, so you need more tonnes for the same heat: about 1.3 tonnes of wood pellets for each tonne of steam coal. The estimator above gives a first figure for your plant.
Can we test a sample first?
Yes. We can send up to 5 kg for your own testing. Samples within Malaysia are free; for overseas samples, the buyer covers the courier cost.
What is the minimum order?
One truckload (about 24 tonnes) for local delivery, and one 20 ft container for export. A smaller trial lot can be arranged for a first order.
How do you check fuel quality?
Every contract states the fuel specification: calorific value, moisture, ash and size. Before each shipment, a sample from the lot is tested against that specification and the results go with the shipping documents. For export, an independent inspection at loading can be arranged on request.
What payment terms do you offer?
For local buyers, the first order is paid before delivery, and approved accounts can then move to credit terms. For export, we work with L/C at sight or T/T.
How should we store pellets?
Keep them dry and under cover. Pellets swell and break down when wet, which blocks feeders. Store bags off the ground on pallets, and use the oldest stock first.
We produce biomass. Do you buy?
Yes. We buy from sawmills, pellet producers and agricultural suppliers. Send your product, monthly volume and a recent analysis through the enquiry form, or call us.
